Transforming the Web Summit Experience

In 2013, Web Summit was scaling from a 15,000-person event to a 30,000-person event, encompassing the entirety of the RDS, all its pavilions, and 35 additional venues throughout Dublin city centre. Additionally, the event included a weekend in Sligo for a more relaxed gathering.

The organizers needed a designer to help create and apply multiple visual systems to the multi-layered experiences for the 23 different attendee types for the four days they were in Dublin. These gatherings brought together the world's tech leaders — visionaries, company founders, designers, builders, investors, students, and spectators — to exchange ideas and inspire the network to pursue new connections and energy for the emerging waves in tech.

As a startup, everyone played an active role, and I think (through rose-tinted hindsight) my role was to ensure that both organizers and attendees got the most out of the event. This event, initially held in Dublin, eventually expanded to cities like Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Madrid, Belfast, Bangalore, and Lisbon.

Throughout my time working and living among these people, I had the honour of designing visual and digital systems that optimized and enhanced the value everyone gained from these events.
